LIST & INFORMATION
Helpful List Information
We offer a deliverability guarantee of 88% on B to B lists and 92% on B to C lists. No matter who you are buying a list from, the large number of people that relocate and therefore change their addresses significantly impacts the accuracy of the data. For businesses, there is a combination of relocations and business closings that impact the deliverability of B to B lists. Relocating firms usually provide notice to the Postal Service, but closed businesses often remain in a compiled list until the list provider learns of the change.
One of the easiest ways to make certain that your mail is delivered and not returned to you is to add "or Current Resident" to all the addresses for your B to C mailings. By doing this, you are assured that whoever is at that address will receive your message.
To ensure that lists purchased from us are as accurate as possible, whenever possible, we work with list providers that monthly utilize NCOA, (National Change of Address) which compares names and addresses to the last 48-months of notifications to the Post Office. For those lists where this is not automatic, we process the lists through NCOA at no additional charge, as service that is normally optional and is provided separately with an extra cost. While this will increase the deliverability rate, it in no way eliminates the challenge of dealing with incorrect or outdated information.
You can also utilize "Ancillary Endorsements" that will provide for mail forwarding and address corrections. The Postal Service specifies four different endorsements that signify different ways for mail to be handled when the person or company is no longer at that address. These services usually have a Post Office service fee associated with them.

Testing is always a good idea
When deciding on a targeted list, you will often be faced with a large quantity of names that fit your audience criteria. Before making the commitment to purchase the entire list, you should consider testing a smaller list first. So, if there are 20,000 names available, try buying and mailing to only 2,000. Measure the response to that mailing before taking the next step. This gives you the opportunity to evaluate your list selection criteria, the strength of your message and the offer you are using to interest people in your business. You can then make adjustments and TEST AGAIN.
Remember, successful direct mail is a process, not an event.
One-Time vs. Multi-Use Lists
One of the decisions you need to make is how many times you want to use the list you are purchasing. All lists are available for a one-time use only and MOST lists are offered for unlimited use for one year at a higher cost. Many list providers include "seed" names in their lists that have addresses that they control. This means that they receive an additional mail piece at that address and know when the list has been used again. By purchasing a list for unlimited use, you can use the data for one year as many times as you wish and don't have to pay additional charges until you purchase it again for the next year.
When buying a one-time use list from us, we receive that list and use it for the mailing you specify. You will not receive a copy of the list. However, if you purchase an unlimited use list, we use the list for your mailing, keep it on file for additional uses and also send you an electronic copy of it in an easily used format. This copy includes all the data fields that you requested when placing your order, (i.e. name, address, city, state, zip, phone #, etc).

What is the data source for my mailing list? What is the data collection methodology?
For Consumer Lists: The data for your mailing list comes from Acxiom's InfoBase, the most comprehensive collection of US consumer, business, and telephone data available from one source. The unique combination of rich data from InfoBase - long recognized as the industry leader - and database management expertise from Acxiom, results in a list with maximum coverage and deliverability. What sets InfoBase apart from the competition is smarter architecture - the InfoBase database is simply built better.
The following process takes place quarterly to ensure fresh and reliable data:
- First, Acxiom gathers and integrates information from more than fifteen of the nation's top data sources.
- Next, all potential InfoBase data undergoes a rigorous screening process by Acxiom's analytical and database teams.
- Then, once the data is entered into the master InfoBase database, all records are multi-verified and ZIP+4 coded.
- Finally, the addresses are cleaned through National Change of Address (NCOA) and Delivery Sequence Files (DSF) before going through Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and deceased suppressions.
Your consumer mailing list is sourced directly from a component of Acxiom's InfoBase called InfoBase List. InfoBase List is a consumer list product consisting of base names and address records combined with comprehensive InfoBase Consumer data, including key demographics, home ownership characteristics, purchasing behavior, and lifestyle data. With InfoBase List, marketers can reach more than 170 million individuals in over 100 million U.S. households nationwide. The end result is one of the largest multi-source databases in the world containing current demographic and lifestyle information on over 95% of U.S. households.
What about consumers/businesses who have requested to be removed from mailing lists?
Every month Acxiom purges from their InfoBase file names that appear in the Do Not Call databases administered by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and State Attorney's General (SAG) for participating states. There is no requirement to have Do-Not-Call type files in the business arena. If a privately owned company asks to be delisted, D&B will remove the business from their marketing file. There is no requirement to have Do-Not-Call type files in the business arena.
What is the accuracy rate of my list? What is the deliverability rate of my list?
While Dun & Bradstreet does their very best to keep the data fresh and the addresses as current as possible, sometimes mail pieces will be returned as undeliverable. Sometimes as much as 10% is returned due to problems unrelated to the data collection process.
Why might my list be undeliverable?
Over 20% of businesses relocate each year.
- Please note that not every business fills out a change of address form and if they do, it may not be correct.
- The USPS has strict rules to prevent mail being incorrectly forwarded to the wrong business address. Sometimes, these rules prevent the appropriate address changes and forwarding to be made.
